The glories of a mature Highveld garden, with trees offering shade from the fierce summer sun.

A garden where delicate white Japanese Anemone blossoms sparkle against green and grey foliage.

Rumbling thunderstorms, overlying the birdsong of wood hoopoe trying to make a hole in the nesting log. Barbets, red chested woodpeckers, grey Loeries, finches, bullbulls, dikkops, yellow weavers. And pidgeons!

Early hours and the rumble of the Gautrain as it tears through the stillness. Mist rising from the water of the dams and only the whir of bicycle chains and running shoes striking the tar break the silence.

Blood sugars struggling to adap to the altitude and my knee not sure of the hills that appear everywhere on morning runs.
