Jandreart Studio at Kupenda Africa Gallery

The last thing I expected in the Loft Apartment were water leaks! After all it’s on the second floor with a Penthouse above it. Yet somehow, when the westerly wind blows the rain it leaks. Nothing serious, until the big storms over the past few days that turned the leaks into rivers of water. Compounding the problem, rain blew in through the industrial windows. A mess.

 

Nothing like the flooding in the low lying parts of town as the two rivers that flow through Montagu hurtled together at Cogmans Kloof pass. With so many of the roads leading into Montagu damaged or underwater, a quick trip to get a few days worth of supplies.

 

Still struggling with my leg, which made hanging the paintings in the new Gallery space a tad tricky. Thrilled with how it’s come together and the Studio is ready to operate. Still need to get the desk stand across from the storage.

 

 

Already the grape vines and fruit orchards are filling out with their new growth, a sea of green to the mountains.

 

Barn on 62 our new favourite b breakfast stop. The Cape Dutch building has been tastefully renovated, is comfortable and serves great coffee and food. The outdoor seating area under the trees, an oasis in summer.

 

Heather and Mike stopped in for a few days which gave us the opportunity to go to 22 Church Street for their amazing food. The menu has all sorts of unusual local ingredients. Spolit  

In his time Jan has been an electronics, nuclear and power system engineer, a strategist, a humanitarian and an artist. A career path linked by creativity and innovative thinking. Initially trained at the Johannesburg College of Art, Jan has won numerous international awards and has exhibited nationally and internationally. He can be found in his studio ‘Jandreart’ located at Thesen Harbour Town, Knysna.
