Elephants moving across the canvas, looking forward, I’m sure, to stomping all over this artist. Watching them materialize out of the canvas is a bit like watching them appear out of the bush. A solid wall of vegetation suddenly becomes this large mass of elephants, silently, without warning.
I started the painting upside down as that seemed the easiest way to get to where I wanted to work and ended up painting the whole thing like that. It meant that I was more focused on the shapes and patterns, rather than being distracted by the image.
